Get on God’s Wavelength

Romans 8:16

The mosquito is best known as a pest, but if the sound of its wing beat is mechanically reproduced beside a planted kernel of corn, the kernel will grow to full ear in half the time the corn grows under optimal natural conditions. There is evidently a planned connection between the sudden emergence of buzzing hoards of insects each spring and the bursting forth of the vegetable kingdom in green glory.

A banana plantation in New South Wales, Australia, has discovered that bananas, too, grow bigger and better to music. To quote a portion of the news report, “It is giving results out of all proportion to the amount of fertilizer used.”

Sir James Jeans, the English mathematician, physicist and astronomer, wrote:

“Everything in the universe is in a state of vibration.” Some of the vibrations are causative. Other sounds are results, called sympathetic vibrations. If two pianos are tuned perfectly alike, strike any note on the one and its counterpart on the other piano will instantly vibrate, but all the others remain silent and still.

For bridges, sympathetic vibrations can be calamitous. The Narrows Bridge in Tacoma, Washington was built by an idealist who carried the beauty of his mathematics too far. He tuned the cables of the bridge, and a 30-mile-an-hour wind played the tune and ripped the bridge apart. Newspaper accounts called the bridge “Galloping Gertie.”

The Christian life is simply one of getting in step with God. It’s tuning up to His standards. His great causative voice that once burst the summit of Mt. Sinai into flame can catch any honest heart willing to vibrate to His truth and make it resonate in perfect harmony with His divine will.

If you are out of tune with God, you have not availed yourself of the power that can be released in your life once God tunes you up. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Get on God’s wavelength. “Anyone who believes in the Son of God has this testimony in his heart” (1 John 5:10). “The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children” (Romans 8:16).
